Research Manager

Overview:

The Research Manager will oversee our research partnerships with technology platforms and push our partnerships forward to develop innovate, scalable interventions that impact social mobility.


Responsibilities:


Project Planning:

  • Co-lead the design and implementation of existing and nascent research projects

  • Co-lead the conceptualization of research frameworks and design for new studies

  • Review and comment on research-related documents prepared by junior staff, including study prospectus and data collection instruments 


Project Management:

  • Co-lead aspects of research projects (e.g. draft tasks and timelines, take responsibility for study components or sub-projects)

  • Help draft IRB applications, research protocols and work with our legal counsel to develop data use agreements

  • Oversee data collection efforts

  • Organize and co-lead project team meetings; lead sub-group or smaller project team meetings 

  • Help with fundraising

Research coordination:

  • Coordinate data analysis activities

  • Help with data management

Writing:

  • Draft and revise memos and reports

  • In conjunction with senior staff, identify key storylines and findings for inclusion in study reports


Fundraising:

  • Contribute to proposal development and grant writing activities

  • Funder updates


Dissemination:

  • Present research findings at policy-oriented and practitioner meetings and conferences

  • Respond to external inquiries from press, researchers, and the general public, under the supervision of project directors

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters degree preferred or relevant experience. Ideal majors are Economics, Statistics, or related social science field. 

  • Experience in managing large economics or quantitative research studies is strongly preferred

  • Training in econometric and statistical techniques employed in randomized evaluations ideal

  • Highly organized with ability to juggle multiple demands simultaneously

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Self-directed, with willingness to take initiative over project tasks and explore potential evaluations

 

Data Scientist

Overview

This position provides an opportunity to apply your skills to have a direct impact on economic and social inequality. The Data Scientist will collaborate with the leadership team of the Learning Collider to co-author rigorous, high-quality research with our platform partners. 

Knowledge and Responsibilities:

  • Construct new data sets from data provided by platform partners 

  • Experience with NLP and various machine learning models a plus

  • Econometrics/Causal Inference and randomized controlled trials 

  • Candidates ideally experienced in R, Stata, and Python

  • Familiarity with algorithmic fairness, recommender systems a plus

  • Collaborate with research, product, and engineering teams on project planning/prioritization meetings, partner meetings, data prioritization meetings, etc.

  • Present research at academic conferences and seminars


Experience:

  • Masters or Ph.D. experience in computer science, economics, or related field with considerable data analysis background

  • Able to lead independent statistical and economic research

  • Ability to work collegially with staff at all levels and in all job profiles
